What is Water Mitigation?

Do you find yourself wondering “what is water mitigation”? Well, these are words you may hear frequently, but what do they really mean?

Water mitigation is the prevention of further water damage by taking strict actions. It includes the removal of unsalvageable content and structural materials (dry wall, flooring, etc.), cleaning of the affected areas, application of disinfecting agents, drying and deodorizing the structure. The SERVPRO team will collect and haul away any unwanted debris from the site.

The length of time it takes to properly mitigate the water at your property is determined by the amount of damage the water has caused.

Advanced drying equipment and air sanitizers are left onsite to complete the water mitigation process. The equipment will be monitored by our technicians over a period of a few days as to the temperature, humidity and moisture in the affected areas.

A Firefighter's Wife

4/26/2019 (Permalink)

A proud firefighter's wife

It’s early morning and I hear him walk through the door. He is still in his blue duty uniform and I look at his face with my sleepy eyes resulting from the restless sleep I've gotten. We hug and hear the little footsteps from our daughter’s sound from around the corner and my thankful and blessed day begins.

I am a firefighter’s wife…

Having a husband in the fire service is truly part of our family. They are family. The brotherhood and sisterhood is a bond that is very strong. They spend time away from their families to help families in need. A family who is experiencing a loss of a loved one, medical emergency, or damage from fire or water can be very overwhelming and can happen any time.

Emergencies do not have a scheduled time or day to occur. The fire department is on the frontline doing what they need to do to everyday. Whether they are hooking up a waterline or maintaining scene safety, they attack the situation as commanded and show compassion to others. They are focused.

I am a proud firefighter’s wife…

The scene is safe, my husband is now rolling in the hose line back on the truck with the duty crew. A family is possibly left without a home to come back to. It needs to be restored and windows need boarded up to preserve security and structural stability. This is where my passion begins. I'm a part of the restoration process and needed during any size disaster.

I now work for SERVPRO, a full-service disaster restoration company and truly believe in the ¨after the disaster¨ restoration process. When my husband is ready to leave the scene and the job is done, SERVPRO is ready 24/7 to begin our process to help families in need. We too are family at SERVPRO and we serve others during their time of need!

SERVPRO Assures Quality Construction

2/21/2019 (Permalink)

At SERVPRO, we guarantee the quality of our work and ensure the best possible final product in a multitude of different ways.

One such method is by letting the various rebuilding materials acclimate for the necessary amount of time.

When a material acclimates, the item's physical temperature changes to match that of the room that it is being installed in.

This is important for several reasons. Not only is the material much easier to work with once it has properly acclimated, but it helps to eliminate the possibility of problems arising in the final product.

Naturally, materials will expand and contract as their temperature changes. A variety of issues can potentially occur if a material is installed before this acclimation process is completed. Gaps can form between separate sheets of drywall, floor boards can buckle, or paneling can get a rippling effect.

These problems not only cause the final product to lose its aesthetically pleasing look, but the material itself must be replaced. Different materials need to acclimate for differing amounts of time as well. All materials must acclimate for a minimum of twenty-four hours; however, some take much longer.

Two examples of such materials are hardwood plank flooring (three to four days) and snap-lock laminate flooring (minimum of forty-eight hours).

Our construction project managers are always there to help with these types of questions, as well as any others, so feel free to ask!

Differentiating the SERVPRO Emergency Ready Profile (ERP)

2/21/2019 (Permalink)

Have you ever heard one of your employees say, " I know I have a file for that, it's here somewhere."

Those words are routinely heard in the commercial business world when referring to the storage methods of plans and processes.

Emergency Ready Profiles (ERPs) are amongst that list and are routinely found in a bulging, three-ring binder. It wouldn't be reasonable to permit employees to enter a burning building to grab the emergency response binder, nor should they wade through a flooded building to secure it as well.

The SERVPRO ERP is different. It's a digitized plan that travels with those who need it most. The immediacy of accessing emergency response plans from your mobile device helps minimize business interruption and provides the critical information needed to begin mitigation services. It contains the necessary information and serves as a quick reference to important aspects of your building.

It seems most disasters occur in the middle of the night or while you're away on vacation. Nonetheless, an ERP from SERVPRO allows you to respond immediately from anywhere.

Action steps can begin with a quick phone call to the nearest SERVPRO and the work of mitigating the damage can begin. The latest research suggests that as much as 50% of businesses close down following a disaster. Of those that survive, the majority had preparedness in place.

A "no cost" assessment of your facility can be done by contacting SERVPRO of East Mahoning County @ (330)536-7477.

Ways to Protect your Basement from Winter Storm Damage

11/27/2018 (Permalink)

As fall turns into winter, we begin to see rains and snowfall which can cause water damage to your basement.

Here are 6 ways you can prepare and protect your basement from water damage caused by rain and melting snow:

  1. Downspouts Cleaned & Pointed Away from the House
A downspout is a pipe used to carry rainwater from your roof to a drain or to ground level. When downspouts are pointed towards the foundation, water has the capability to seep in. Point downspouts away from your home in a direction that slopes away from the foundation.

  2. Fix Cracks Quickly
Inspect your foundation yearly and fix cracks quickly. This will prevent water from creeping in through cracks and faults in your foundation - which typically aren't covered by insurance.

  3. Install a Sump Pump
A sump pump is used where basement flooding happens regularly. Sump pumps send water away from a house to a place where it is no longer problematic, such as a municipal storm drain or dry well. Sump pumps run on electricity, so it is important to check the pump regularly (especially during storms) to ensure it is running properly.

  4. Proper Storage
It is important to be proactive in protecting your belongings before a water damage situation occurs. Use plastic storage bins instead of cardboard boxes, and try to keep contents on a shelf rather than storing them on the floor.

  5. Install a Water Alarm
If you're planning to travel this summer, consider a water alarm for your home. They'll alert you should water levels inside start to rise - which can help save your home from damage.

  6. Check your Insurance Policy
The best thing you can do to protect your basement and contents is having the right kind of insurance and the right amount. Check with your agent to make sure your home and belongings are covered in the event of a sewer/drain backup, sump pump malfunction or flooding.

Like us on Facebook for more tips and updates on ways to make sure you, too, are Ready for Whatever Happens!

Smoke Damage Cleanup Company in Youngstown, Ohio

9/26/2018 (Permalink)

Smoke and soot are very invasive and can penetrate various cavities within your home, causing hidden damage and odor. Our smoke damage expertise and experience allows us to inspect and accurately assess the extent of the damage to develop a comprehensive plan of action.

Smoke and soot facts:

  • Hot smoke migrates to cooler areas and upper levels of a structure.
  • Smoke flows around plumbing systems, seeping through the holes used by pipes to go from floor to floor.
  • The type of smoke may greatly affect the restoration process.

Different Types of Smoke

There are two different types of smoke–wet and dry. As a result, there are different types of soot residue after a fire. Before restoration begins, SERVPRO of East Mahoning County will test the soot to determine which type of smoke damage occurred. The cleaning procedures will then be based on the information identified during pretesting. Here is some additional information:

Wet Smoke – Plastic and Rubber

  • Low heat, smoldering, pungent odor, sticky, smeary. Smoke webs are more difficult to clean.

Dry Smoke – Paper and Wood

  • Fast burning, high temperatures, heat rises therefore smoke rises.

Protein Fire Residue – Produced by evaporation of material rather than from a fire

  • Virtually invisible, discolors paints and varnishes, extreme pungent odor.

Mold Problem in Poland Ohio

9/22/2018 (Permalink)

Does your Poland home or business have a mold problem?

Microscopic mold spores naturally occur almost everywhere, both outdoors and indoors. This makes it impossible to remove all mold from a home or business. Therefore, mold remediation reduces the mold spore count back to its natural or baseline level. Some restoration businesses advertise “mold removal” and even guarantee to remove all mold, which is a fallacy. Consider the following mold facts:

  • Mold is present almost everywhere, indoors and outdoors.
  • Mold spores are microscopic and float along in the air and may enter your home through windows, doors, or AC/heating systems or even hitch a ride indoors on your clothing or a pet.
  • Mold spores thrive on moisture. Mold spores can quickly grow into colonies when exposed to water. These colonies may produce allergens and irritants.
  • Before mold remediation can begin, any sources of water or moisture must be addressed. Otherwise, the mold may return.
  • Mold often produces a strong, musty odor and can lead you to possible mold problem areas.
  • Even higher-than-normal indoor humidity can support mold growth. Keep indoor humidity below 45 percent.

If your home or business has a mold problem, we can inspect and assess your property and use our specialized training, equipment, and expertise to remediate your mold infestation.

Christmas Tree Fires in Youngstown, Ohio

12/4/2017 (Permalink)

Cause of Christmas Tree Fires

A common reason is due to electrical problems. There have been many instances where an extension cord has failed while under pressure of an object and caused a fire.

Prevent Christmas Tree Fires

With real trees there are many precautions and care that needs to be given. Watering the Christmas tree daily is necessary to prevent water level dropping below the cut end of the tree. Dry trees are the biggest culprit in these fires because they can burn faster than newspaper, causing the fire to spread rapidly.

Safety Tips

  • Making sure string lights have no loose connections
  • Use a single extension cord that is not longer than needed
  • Use UL- approved lights
  • Turn off lights before bed
  • Water the tree daily
  • Keep candles away from the tree.

Placing a candle in a safe atmosphere is important. Try to keep them on a flat surface away from any drapes or other inflammable objects.

Frozen Pipes

2/9/2017 (Permalink)

Use a blow dryer to warm pipes

During winter in your Poland area pipes often freeze during winter months. When temperatures get down around 20 degrees and sometimes above if the pipes are exposed to cold windy air usually due to cracks in walls pipes will freeze. When water in the pipes freeze it expands into ice putting pressure on the pipe and can cause it to burst leading to a broken pipe and a flood in your home. Pipes that are metal or water lines to things like pools, sprinklers, and interior pipes can burst no matter what the water is flowing through if it’s frozen. To prevent pipes from freezing it’s important to keep garage doors closed if water supply is in garage, open cabinets and doors, let water drip in facets, and keep it warm in the area where pipes are. If frozen pipes occur, keep the faucet open while warming the pipe; apply heat to the section of pipe, but avoid using open flame devices. To avoid this problem keep pipes warm. In the event that your pipes burst and flooding occurs, call the professionals to extract the water and make it like it never even happened at (330)536-7477. Also follow us on Facebook for updates and promotions.

Soot Tags

2/6/2017 (Permalink)

Soot Tags

Soot Tags

Soot tags occur from a synthetic/petroleum based source burn.  During a fire smoke and soot circulate throughout the house and the heat moves toward cool air when trying to equalize the temperature. In the areas with less circulation the soot tags will begin to form and can look like soot on spider webs. However, soot tags are just chains of soot that gather in the areas with low circulation that look like webs. These can occur immediately or over time and reoccur even after dusting them off. Stay away from spraying water on the area to clean it because it will smear and stain. To help prevent this from happening service your furnace annually to ensure it is working properly to help deal with soot.  The best way to combat these soot tags are to contact your local SERVPRO in your Struthers area.

Contact us if you are dealing with soot at (330)536-7477 and follow us on Facebook to stay in touch.

Contaminated Air (Duct Cleaning)

2/6/2017 (Permalink)

Cleaned out these pollutants from ducts

Air pollutants can get into your business or home in many ways such as bringing in a new mattress, cleaning chemicals, mold, fire retardants, paint, and many other ways. These pollutants among other kinds can cause allergies and provide unnecessary struggle for people with asthma. In order to combat these pollutants there are many things people can do to minimize the amount. Having proper filters on vacuums, putting floor mats at doors, not smoking, avoiding fragrances by using natural air fresheners and having indoor plants are common ways to keep the air clean.  Proper ventilation is one of the most important parts in keeping indoor air clean. If your air ducts have gone for some time without inspection they could be circulating dust, pollen, odors, dirt and debris, and other contaminants that are harmful to breath. SERVPRO of East Mahoning County Professionals routinely inspects and clean HVAC and air ducts in your Youngstown area to give you clean air to breathe.

Meth Lab Cleanup

1/9/2017 (Permalink)

SERVPRO offers many services big or small, normal or unexpected. We specialize in biohazard cleanup which includes sewage, crime scene, accident, hoarding, animal waste, chemical, meth lab, and more. Meth labs can be found in your Youngstown area. SERVPRO realizes chemicals used in the production of illegal drugs such as methamphetamine leave harmful residues throughout the location where meth was being made. We are trained professionals who follow federal and state guidelines to properly clean all of the surfaces affected. A meth lab location must first have all obvious dangers removed such as chemicals, equipment, drugs, and other illegal items. Then the whole area is cleaned and if necessary the land and waters are also cleaned. After this has been done, the location will then again be inhabitable.

For any biohazard cleanup contact us at (330)536-7477 and check us out on Facebook.

Ice Dams

1/3/2017 (Permalink)

How Do Ice Dams Form?

Usually after a snow storm there is a pile of snow sitting on the roof above your attic. After the weather warms above 32 degrees Fahrenheit to melt the under layer of the snow it causes the top layer to form into a mound of ice.

Damages They Cause:

After the ice dam reaches it full capacity, the melted water begins to seep underneath the shingles along with dripping into the insulation and down to the ceilings.

How to Remove the Ice Dams?

Removing ice dams can easily lead to damages even if extremely careful. To efficiently remove the ice dams call a professional to prevent damages to your shingles.

Prevention:

To keep your Youngstown home safe try one of these tips-

A simple prevention method is simply scraping the snow off of the roof the day it falls.

Another way to prevent ice dams is by installing heated cables before the winter begins.

Pipe Burst

12/12/2016 (Permalink)

Pipe bursts

There are a few reasons pipes can burst, but the main one is because of freezing conditions.  Other reasons pipes many burst are due to age, misuse, or damage. When pipes burst they cause damage to property, homes, and sometimes entire areas of a town and roads for days. The most devastating part of pipe bursts aren’t the cost of the repair or even the loss of water, it is the damage that the water does to the homes. In one day the water accumulation in a house could be 9,600 liters of water. Winter is here, so by keeping your homes correctly heated and your pipes properly protected you can avoid a pipe burst in you Campbell home. If you have a pipe burst, close the stopcock fully and open the taps in the home to remove water from the system, stay away from all electrical devices, move any furniture away as soon as possible, call your emergency plumber, and finally call SERVPRO to take care of your water damages.

Forest Fire

12/5/2016 (Permalink)

How forest fires are caused

A forest fire is an uncontrolled fire occurring in nature. Most forest fires are man made. A heat source combines with dry leaves and grass which release volatile gases and combines with oxygen in the air and starts the burn which creates more heat and gas and the fire spreads. The steeper the terrain the faster the fire burns because of the hot air rising into the other trees.

Affects of Wildfires

Forest fires cause damage to houses, offices, vegetation, and anything in its way. Cities have to spend millions on fighting them with aircraft, personnel, chemicals, and logistics. These fires wipe away almost all organic value of soil. However, most plants easily grow back and have good recovery. Some plants even thrive after a wildfire.

Proper Disposal of Fats, Oils, & Grease

11/28/2016 (Permalink)

Properly Dispose of Fats, Oils, and Grease

Properly disposing of fats, oils, and grease is important to avoid clogging sewers and having them back up into yards and streets. Be a good neighbor in your New Middletown city and properly dispose of butters, sauces, dressings, and other oil based products that can clog sewers.

Problem

Pouring oils and grease down the drain cause sewer pipes to clog which leads to an overflow in neighborhoods and can run into nearby drinking water such as rivers and streams. These oils and grease back up in sewers creating globs that get stuck to the walls and cause the sewage backups that create health problems.

Proper Disposal & Alternatives

  • Pour oils and grease into covered containers and then throw away
  • Throw food scraps in garbage
  • Reuse most oils for cooking and baking
  • Reuse bacon grease

Cleaning Braided Rugs

10/26/2016 (Permalink)

Braided rugs must be cleaned with the right set of instructions because they can easily be destroyed. These rugs are made to last a long time, but attract a great amount of dirt which requires proper deep cleaning. If you a have braided rug in your Campbell, Ohio home then follow the set of instructions below to clean your braided rug:

Before the cleaning process check to see if the rug is washable. After you have checked to see if the rug is suitable to be washed, shake it out to remove as much dust and dirt particles as possible.

  • Small Rugs
  1. You can air dry the rub, but for a speedy outcome tumble dry on low
  2. Set in a mesh laundry bag to wash in a gentle cycle with cool water.
  • Large Rugs
  1. Lay rug on concrete floor.
  2. Use a carpet cleaning foam to rub in a circular motion with a sponge.
  3. Rinse and completely dry before using carpet.

Let the Quarter Decide

10/25/2016 (Permalink)

Power outages are common during a storm, which means the electricity in a freezer is not keeping the food cold. It can be difficult to determine if a power outage occurred if you were not present during the storm. One away to determine whether the food in your freezer needs thrown out is by using a quarter. Freeze a cup of water before evacuating your home and put a quarter on top of the frozen water. If the quarter is sunk to the bottom of the cup after the storm, you should dispose all food stored in the freezer. The quarter sinking to the bottom means the food in the freezer has defrosted and it should be thrown out. This is a great method to determine if your food went bad in your New Middletown, Ohio home.

Clean Kitchen Utensils with Salt

10/25/2016 (Permalink)

Salt can remove some of the toughest stains if used correctly. Using salt is a natural and effective way to clean your Greenford, Ohio home.

Cutting boards are filled with many germs due to the residue after cooking. An alternative to disposing a cutting board is cleaning it with salt and lemon.

  • Sprinkle salt on the wooden cutting board
  • Rub the salt with the side of the cut lemon

Glass coffee pots are far from stain resistant and the cleaning process can be challenging if you are not following a correct cleaning method. Simply adding salt to your cleaning process can effortlessly remove the stains.

  • Apply a few tablespoons of salt inside the coffee pot
  • Fill the pot with hot water and let it soak for an hour
  • Rinse and dry

Grease can build up in your sink after time which makes it difficult for liquid substances to pass through. Salt can effectively remove the grease in your sink.

  • Pour salt down the drain and run hot water for 2 minutes

Control the Mold

10/3/2016 (Permalink)

Mold is most likely to grow in a moist atmosphere, so it is common for mold to appear in your home after a flood or as leak. Although mold is expected to appear in moist areas, action should be taken immediately after it begins to grow to prevent the fungus from spreading. Mold can cause allergic reactions such as, watery eyes, runny nose and coughing. The best way to prevent mold from occurring is by controlling the moisture in your home. Molds are not limited to growing on one particular surface; mold can grow on your walls, floors, carpets, appliances, and furniture. A way to control the moisture in your home is by recognizing some common sources such as indoor plumbing leaks, humidifiers, flooding, or even wet clothes drying inside the home.

PREP YOUR HOME FOR FALL

Most of us are informed of what actions to apply immediately during a fire, but it is important to enlighten children of what to do. When a fire occurs it is important to stay low at all times until you are out of the endangered premises. Staying low on the ground will keep you from inhaling too much smoke. Your first priority should be evacuating the structure immediately and making sure everyone else has an understanding of the main goal. Sometimes it is impossible to leave the endangered area, but it is essential to understand to never hide under a bed or in a closet. If you have a phone on hand you can call 911 and let them know you are trapped. If any apparel that you are wearing catches on fire, do not panic! Tips to Survive the Dark

9/7/2016 (Permalink)

Candle Crayons

Break the point off the candle and use the paper label as a wick. Light the paper label at the end of the crayon; the crayon should last about thirty minutes.

Crisco Candles

If you need a long lasting candle substitution, then using Crisco is the answer. This alternative will last for thirty days! Open a can of Crisco all vegetable shortening and insert a wick substitution, such as a mop strand or even a shred of a cotton t-shirt.

Gum Lighter

If you do not have a way to light these candle substitutions because there is no form of electricity or a lighter available, you can create a small fire with gum wrapper and a battery. Use the foil wrapper and a AA battery to create a flame. Tear the wrapper and let the foil touch the positive and negative battery terminals so the wrapper can catch fire.

Fire Safety Tips

9/7/2016 (Permalink)

There are several ways to prevent a fire just by eliminating hazards. Watch out for extension cords and multiple wires that are hidden behind carpets and curtains. Overloading Circuits is a common mistake especially for families who possess multiple electronics because they do not split the devices and run a different circuit.

There should always be an operating fire extinguisher and smoke detectors installed in all homes. It is important to have a plan prepared for emergencies with people you live with. During a tragic incident it can be difficult to immediately take action and handle the situation. Having a plan prepared can prevent injuries and accelerating the process of leading everyone back to safety. Also focusing on bringing yourself back to safety is essential, which means leaving personal items behind. This situation can be hard, but it is imperative that you are not putting yourself in a dangerous situation.

If any damages occur after a fire, SERVPRO of East Mahoning County specializes in residential or commercial services, back to “Like it never even happened.”

During the summer holidays most people host outdoor events such as cookouts and parties which require a grill. The most unappealing part of grilling is cleaning the spots after. Occasions like the fourth of July and Labor Day will keep a host engaged throughout the event and are incapable of becoming occupied with cleaning when there are guest and multiple activities taking place. There is a solution to avoiding sticky spots of food residue and it requires an onion! The onion should be cut in half in order to rub the cut side on a heated grill grate. This method will turn your grill grate into a non-stick appliance and reduce the amount of cleaning after your grilling experience. The procedure is cost efficient and effective which will leave your grilling experience less time consuming.

Simple Acts of Kindness

8/31/2016 (Permalink)

Volunteers around the Warren area come together and clean up neglected areas in their community. Groups including Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership and Warren City Schools will also be pitching in. There are seven streets that the volunteers concentrated on in the southeast side of the city. They all joined together to help out the abandoned neighborhoods. They took part in mowing the lawns and picking up garbage. This is part of a cleaning initiative called, “Southeast Neighborhood Pride Week.” They achieved in helping out with over thirty houses by doing simple yard work such as trimming the bushes to create a positive appearance in their neighborhood. This act of kindness is not secluded and is open to anyone who is interested in joining to clean up the city. Simple Acts of kindness and helping out can enhance your community as a whole.

When to Schedule Your Cleaning

8/31/2016 (Permalink)

There objects and appliances that need to be cleaned monthly for a fresh and hygienic atmosphere. Staying consistent with a cleaning schedule will prevent allergies and sickness that may occur from bacteria and germs. Appliances such as washers, ovens, and microwaves only have to be cleaned once a month unless extreme food spills take place. Cabinets should be cleaned because they collect dust and become visible after a month. There are certain items in your home that only have to be taken care of seasonally. This seasonal process can be done in the spring. This is the time to search through your cabinets and look for expired food to prevent molding from occurring. Comforter and duvets should also be washed along with windows, blinds, and curtains. Washing all of those items will create a fresh room that does not contain dust or germs.

This type of mold is harmful with people who have allergies or asthma. It could cause allergic reactions and shortness of breath for individuals who are diagnosed with asthma. Aspergillus is a type of mold that usually occurs in moist areas in your house and grows very quickly. This mold usually appears on the walls of your basement; most people ignore it and do not take action because they are not aware of the infections it causes. Sewage backups should not be taken light considering that can be very dangerous by causing severe illness. The contaminated water and bacteria could lead to infectious diseases if not taken care of immediately. There are three different types of stages of water, three being the most hazardous. The first stage is clean water which is usually from a broke water line, but this stage can quickly turn into stage two or three if untreated. Stage two is usually from toilet or dish overflow and is considered gray water. Stage two may include bacteria and viruses and needs to be treated immediately to prevent stage three from occurring. Stage three water is extremely hazardous and contained with unsanitary water filled with bacteria; if this water is ingested it could lead to life-threatening illness or death and all contact to this water should be avoided. Beware of Water

8/26/2016 (Permalink)

It is obvious that water and electricity are a dangerous combination. There are many ways to prevent many dangers that may occur from water and electricity. Keeping your appliances away from water except for washing machines and dishwashers can prevent fires from starting. One little drip onto a power cord can cause a home fire. Another simple suggestion is to refrain from touching electricity with wet hands to prevent electrocution. To inhibit electrical accidents, refrain from putting portable heaters in a bathroom. As tempting as it might be to carry your portable heater with you on a winter morning, this practice could cause a severe incident if any water were to spill. It is detrimental for your safety and well being to unplug all appliances from the outlet after finished to prevent any fires. If any fire incidents happen due to electricity or water, call SERVPRO to restore all of your damages back to "Like it never even happened."

Got Baking Soda?

8/26/2016 (Permalink)

Baking soda can be used in several different procedures to clean. Most people who bake are familiar with its capability to cause baked goods to rise. Although it is a great ingredient for baked goods, baking soda also an excellent component for cleaning. The element can be used to clean your child's toys by mixing 4 teaspoons of baking soda, with 1 quart warm water in a spray bottle. After the baking soda has dissolved, spray the mixture on to the toys. After you have finished this step, rinse all of the toys with water and leave them to dry. Baking soda can also be used to remove those unwanted coffee stains.

Have you ever rushed to work or class in the morning and spilled coffee all over your new clothes you were excited to wear? Well this dilemma has unfortunately happened to me several of times, but do not panic! There is a solution to remove the stains and you do not have to throw out your new clothes. Just mix 1 tsp of baking soda with 1 cup of water and use a clean cloth to gently scrub to bring your clothes back to new.

How Clean is Your House?

8/24/2016 (Permalink)

For many of us cleaning our houses is a daily task, whether it is vacuuming or even sweeping. But we probably only clean 60% of the dirt without even being aware. Imagine how much build up that could lead to. Dirt is usually hidden in our own carpets, filled with dust mites, mold, and hair along with several other allergens. Vacuuming will not remove all the bacteria and dirt, but highly trained professionals at SERVPRO are able to remove noticeable dirt and even buildup and that is not visible.

There is more to a clean house than just carpet cleaning, there are areas you would never even think of! If you are wondering why your house is not cooling or heating quickly and efficiently, then it is probably because you are due for an air duct cleaning. This will improve the quality of air in your home.

3 Essential Storm Aphorisms to Live By

8/24/2016 (Permalink)

1. “When thunder roars, go indoors”

This one is a given, you might have heard this phrase as a child from your parents while you were playing in the rain. Yes many of the best youthful memories occurred while playing in the rain, but as adults it is difficult to enjoy the rain since we are more aware of their damages.

2. “A lot of people like snow. I find it to be an unnecessary freezing of water”

As pretty as the snow is during the winter, we cannot dismiss the issues that arises throughout a snow storm. Snow is freezing water and water has not always had the best track record of affecting houses positively. The freezing water eventually melts and causes several damages to your gutters and down-pipes.

This is where you call SERVPRO to help clean and restore your damages.

3. “When it snows, you have two choices: shovel or make snow angels”

Making snow angels after a snow storm can be exceptionally tempting, but the snow around your house needs to be shoveled. I know it is common to just shovel the drive way, but shoveling around your house can be extremely beneficial. The snow around your house will eventually melt and seep into your basement if not shoveled.

Sometimes damages may occur no matter how many ways you try to prevent them, but luckily SERVPRO specializes in water cleanup and restoration.

River Rock at The Amp

7/22/2016 (Permalink)

River Rock at the Amp in downtown Warren featuring 7 Bridges: The Ultimate EAGLES Experience & Chris Higbee: Our Fiddler on the Roof

SERVPRO of East Mahoning County participated at the River Rock at the Amp on July 16, 2016 featuring 7 Bridges: The Ultimate Eagles Experience & Chris Higbee: Our Fiddler on the Roof!

7 Bridges: The Ultimate EAGLES Experience is a stunningly accurate tribute to the music of the Eagles. Using no backing tracks or harmonizers, 7 Bridges faithfully re-creates the experience of an Eagles concert from the band’s most prolific period. Every show features one brilliant hit single after another with some mighty Don Henley and Joe Walsh surprises sprinkled into the mix. Each performance offers the perfect blend of songs to capture all levels of Eagles devotees.

The band combines incredible musicianship, vocal precision and a stage presence that has garnered them nationwide acclaim.

Country music vocalist and fiddle player Chris Higbee and his band will be one of the most crowd-pleasing performances you will see at the Amp! Higbee performs at full energy and doesn’t let up. Along with his talented band that includes a versatile guitar player, Higbee mixes country and rock ’n’ roll classics, along with a few original numbers. And the audience can’t help but to get up and dance, particularly to “Twist and Shout.” Another crowd pleaser is dialogue between Higbee’s fiddle and the guitar player: the guitar plays intros to famous classic rock songs and Higbee responds with country tunes on his fiddle.Playing fiddle, guitar and banjo, Higbee is breathtaking to watch. But keep a keen eye out, as he often disappears from stage and reappears playing from a bird’s eye view, delighting the audience.

Chris Higbee grew up a farm boy with a musical curiosity and a diligent mother and father. That curiosity quickly became a passion that forged his dreams. “Fiddles Rock,” the first track on Higbee’s new album, tells that story and was inspired by his late father. It was co-written with Higbee’s producer Tommy Harden and Don Rollins (“It’s Five O'clock Somewhere”.)

River Rock at the Amp classic rock concerts take the stage rain or shine at the Warren Community Amphitheatre. The Amp is located in picturesque downtown Warren, Ohio, along Millionaires’ Row and adjacent to historic Courthouse Park overlooking the Mahoning River. The Amp is owned and maintained by the city of Warren.

Did you know an estimated 500,000 pets are affected every year by home fires? Take the time to make a plan for your furry friends. It's worth it.

In the event of a fire, often times our littlest family members are left homeless. While insurance companies care for the family's needs of food and shelter, there is little chance that the pet family members will be considered. There are several things you can do to ensure your pet's safety in the event of an emergency:

  1. Have ID on your pet's collar, as well as, having them microchipped
  2. Have a crate to transport your pet
  3. Secure a friend or family member in advance who will be willing and able to watch your pets in the event of an emergency
  4. Have current photos of your pet in case they do slip away in all the commotion
  5. Be sure to have a supply of food, fresh water and a leash for them
  6. Locate pet friendly hotels in your areas in case your friends/family aren't available.

Pets are part of the family too!

Struthers, Ohio Basement Water Damage Cleanup

7/22/2016 (Permalink)

With a few heavy rains over the last week and countless more ahead, it's important to protect your Struthers basement (and everything in it) from potential water damage.

Here are 6 ways you can prepare and protect your basement from the heavy rains this summer:

This will prevent water from creeping in through cracks and faults in your foundation - which typically aren't coved by insurace.
