Sleepiness is a Safety Hazard

Man yawning at desk SERVPRO of East Mahoning County wants you to get enough sleep and stay stress-free!

Although we may not be able to agree on if it is called soda or pop, or fireflies or lightening bugs; I think one thing we can all relate to is being tired. If you are old enough to be able to read, there is a good chance you have felt tired at least one day in your life. Everyone has the same number of hours in a day, but the to-do list can seem never-ending.

Lack of sleep can lead to multiple consequences and sometimes be quite dangerous in the workplace.

  • Accidents can happen no matter what, whether you are at home, work, or in the car, with 12 hours of sleep or 4. However, there are many precautions and guidelines put in place to help prevent accidents from happening. If you are driving and feeling extra sleepy, pull over and take a quick 20-minute cat nap. Getting enough sleep at night is just one way to help prevent accidents.
  • Sleep deprivation can cause issues when it comes to memory. It is very normal to forget things occasionally, but if you are sleep deprived, your memory loss can become more frequent and start affecting your work. Being well-rested each day can help you do your best for your co-workers and customers.
  • If you are lacking sleep, it can be more difficult to concentrate and focus on a task. In addition, if you are a usual multi-tasker, it can be harder to juggle many ideas at once.
  • Lastly, a lack of sleep can lead to a weakened immune system. Especially if you are consistently not getting enough sleep each night. When your immune system is weakened, you are much more likely to get sick.

SERVPRO of East Mahoning County wants you to stay as safe, well-rested, and healthy as possible. We urge you to be mindful and take care of yourself by resting your body and mind when you are tired.
